ZOE Farms is more than just another organic farm. It’s the embodiment of an idea that we can design living, dynamic systems that work within nature to provide abundance for humans and our environment. It’s Abundance by Design!
ZOE Farms is -
Land – Located between the Great Lakes and Ohio River valley regions of Northeast Ohio, ZOE Farms sits on 20 acres just outside the city of Canton. For the past 50+ years, this rolling, grassy landscape has been managed predominately using traditional extractive agricultural practices. It is now a site of transformation using the principles of Permaculture design to rehabilitate the land into a diverse, resilient food-producing ecosystem.
Home – Birds, bees, butterflies, beetles, bunnies and bizzilions of other creatures are finding a good life at ZOE Farms. As we continue healing the landscape by providing diversity in habitat, we find that more and different critters are showing up every season. And if that’s not good enough – we live here too. In a central location on the land, our earth-sheltered home provides us not only with an ultra-efficient place to sleep, but also a space for large scale food processing and storage.
Food – everyone needs to eat. ZOE Farms is focused on establishing a resilient system of food production that starts with caring for the land. In return, the land will feed wildlife along with our family and many others for generations to come.
Community – The best things in life are better when shared. ZOE Farms is a place where people from all walks of life and backgrounds come together to share ideas, good meals and hard work. We will learn with each other and from each other how to better reconnect with nature, ourselves and people around us. A diversity of opportunities exists to connect with like-minded people working toward similar goals. Sign up for our newsletter so we can keep you posted on what’s coming up next.
A Learning Center – With such significant changes happening in a landscape every year, we are learning at a pace beyond any institutionalized setting can offer. Nature is teaching us and we want to share what we’re learning. Sign up for a Deeper Roots Learning Session or come spend a day or more working with us on a project installation. In addition to K-12 students, we also welcome Masters Thesis students to use ZOE Farms as a multi-year research platform for better understanding this expanding field of ecosystem development.
